Alkermes modernises its SharePoint homepage with Content Formula and Lightspeed365

Alkermes intranet homepage

A stronger foundation for internal communications

Alkermes partnered with Content Formula on a SharePoint homepage redesign designed to modernise the intranet experience and create a stronger foundation for internal communications. The work combined SharePoint expertise with Lightspeed365 to help Alkermes move from a legacy hybrid Classic and Modern environment to a more user-centric, customised homepage that better reflected how content needed to be targeted across the organisation.

A fragmented hybrid SharePoint experience

Alkermes was working with a hybrid SharePoint Classic and Modern environment that created a fragmented user experience, lacked key modern features, and lacked mobile accessibility. The organisation needed to modernise the homepage without losing the functionality that teams already relied on.

This was not simply a visual refresh. Alkermes needed a partner that could:

  • support the transition from a legacy SharePoint environment to a modern experience
  • understand the role of the homepage in internal communications
  • align stakeholders across Internal Communications and IT on a shared vision for the redesign
  • deliver training and handover that left the Alkermes team confident to manage and build on the platform themselves

Knowledge transfer first, then a homepage the team could own

Content Formula worked with stakeholders across Internal Communications and IT to shape the project and move it towards delivery.

The early process centred on knowledge transfer sessions and working sessions to clarify how the existing homepage functioned and what would need to be carried forward. From there, the project moved through design, technical configuration, and a structured training and handover phase — with the Alkermes team ultimately building the homepage themselves following the Lightspeed365 training, supported by Content Formula's user experience and technical consultancy throughout.

A customised homepage supported by Lightspeed365

The solution was a customised SharePoint homepage redesign supported by Lightspeed365.

The project combined:

  • a user-research-informed homepage design, developed through knowledge transfer sessions with stakeholders across Communications and IT
  • Lightspeed365 installation, configuration, and training — with the Alkermes team empowered to build and manage the homepage themselves
  • a platform capable of supporting targeted communications to employees, using Lightspeed365 Alerts and, in time, Push Notifications

This is a strong example of how Content Formula helps organisations improve SharePoint without treating modernisation as a generic migration exercise. The focus was on preserving what mattered, improving the user experience, and building a practical route from a legacy intranet model to a more sustainable Microsoft 365 experience.

The homepage as a communications touchpoint

For Alkermes, the homepage was an important internal communications touchpoint rather than just a landing page. The organisation needed confidence that a redesign would not disrupt homepage publishing or the communication journeys already embedded in the current environment.

That made stakeholder alignment especially important. The project brought together business, communications, and IT considerations so that the redesigned homepage could support both the employee experience and the technical realities of the existing SharePoint estate.

A particularly strong outcome was Alkermes's decision to build the homepage themselves following the Lightspeed365 training — a sign of genuine capability transfer and confidence in the platform, rather than dependence on the delivery partner to complete the work.

What was delivered

  • Alkermes moved from a fragmented hybrid SharePoint environment to a fully modern, user-centric homepage experience
  • Stakeholders from Internal Communications and IT were involved throughout, ensuring the solution reflected both business and technical needs
  • The Alkermes team built the homepage themselves following the Lightspeed365 training, taking ownership of the platform from day one
  • Lightspeed365 provides a foundation for targeted employee communications, with Push Notifications available when Alkermes are ready to activate them
